The purpose of the Urban Beekeeper Association is to bring together individuals involved in beekeeping, apitourism, environmental protection, agriculture, biotechnology, and related fields in Ljubljana and Slovenia. The association connects those who support activities in these fields and helps them achieve their common interests, primarily the development and promotion of urban beekeeping as an activity that contributes to the conservation and development of the urban environment and improves the quality of life.

Given that cities are increasingly moving towards greening urban cores, with people following the trend of healthy living, self-sufficiency, and holistic interaction with the environment, there is also a growing social awareness of the importance of bees for the survival and existence of the entire ecosystem. Thus, urban beekeeping is thriving worldwide today, including in our region. Extensive French research has shown that urban bees are even healthier, longer-lived, and more productive than their rural counterparts, attributed to biodiversity, dietary diversity, and the absence of pesticides.

The Urban Beekeeper Association offers the possibility of hosting a beehive in an urban garden, balcony, terrace, rooftop, extension, or garage. For those who lack the time, knowledge, or equipment for year-round care, they provide the opportunity to observe the development of the bee colony, enjoy their buzzing and honey scent, and participate in key beekeeping activities. After inspecting the location, they arrange for the installation of the bee colony, with agreements typically lasting for at least one year.

For beginner beekeepers who need assistance in caring for their bee colonies, the association offers a practical mentoring package. Experienced members, including master beekeepers, provide support during hive inspections and advise on the next steps.

The association collaborates with experts in architecture and landscape architecture to assist in the landscaping of residential and other properties. Plans can include the planting of honey plants, perennials, and other vegetation.

The association organizes lectures and workshops on urban beekeeping, landscaping, self-sufficiency, and urban permaculture.
