Opus Apis has its roots in Paolo’s beekeeping business that began in 2006 then in 2017 it also became an artisanal cookie and breadstick making workshop. Plus a laboratory of ideas that aims to generate awareness and sensitivity on the issues of food, bees and nature.
The Latin proverb “In labore fructus” is our lighthouse toward our mission: to seek through constant and passionate work the best quality of our organic, gluten-free and lactose-free products. Beside that we strongly aim at transparency (toward consumers) and sustainability (toward the environment) as we’d like to transfer these ethical values to our customers through our products, which are not only organic and production: for instance honey, biscuits, breadsticks are packed only in glass containers; also our company run 100% on green energy.
We directly produce and select Italian organic single-origin honeys and other beehive-products, maximising the value of the raw material, which especially in recent years cannot be taken for granted! We believe honey must break out of the over simplistic stereotype of the “natural sweetener” to fully earn the status of a valuable functional food both for its qualities and for the increasingly undeniable difficulties of production, with a view to sustainability and ethicality.
Honey and hive products are always our common thread, and we try to combine them in different ways:
- Homemade, organic, gluten-free and lactose-free breadsticks and cookies that satisfy not only those who love good things, but also those who have allergies or intolerances and those who like to take care of themselves with high-quality products. Our honey helps in the dough and gives new flavours in unexpected combinations.
- honey-based liqueurs (from chestnut, coriander, orange single-orgin honeys…) to drink straight or used as cocktails bases;
- superfoods, an energetic combination of honey, royal jelly and various delicacies;
- royal jelly and pollen-rich foods that energise the hive and help us too.
To engage and educate our local community, we try lo learn from the bees: the life of the beehive has always given and taught us much so we seek to reciprocate by offering regenerative, outreach projects that bring wealth and can represent a community that loves the beauty of relationships and the goodness of healthy food: we organise ‘Open Days’ (called ‘Open Hives’) to offer an opportunity for those who want to see the world of bees and beekeeping up close and personal; summer aperitives, in a relaxed atmosphere, creating opportunities for meeting, discussion and networking with tasting; Honey tasting events, guided tastings of monofloral honeys; Beekeeping Pills, in-depth lectures on the world of bees, small scientific, commercial and even poetic insights.[
We also aim to bring our values beyond our network of customers. Thus we developed “Let’s re-start from the Bees”, a company oriented project of redevelopment and monitoring of the territory through the work of bees; also we are progressively developing our “Pollinator Garden”, a Park that we are developing step by step, dedicated to bees, a future focal point for the community[1] to enhance and protect this complex world. A space where people can rediscover their role in the ecosystem.
We are perfectly aware that we are a small reality, and that our goals might look unrealistic or too ambitious: however, we are happy to provide our little direct contribution, and we strongly believe in transferring our values to the community, through our products and our actions, is the best way to leverage success!
